Mórbido Fest, was created in 2008, to be a space to promote Mexican film and recover the long tradition of producing horror and fantasy films in Mexico. After our first edition, Mórbido evolved to become something greater: not only a multifaceted festival that celebrates Mexican culture, traditions and film, but also a creator of multi-platform content related to the fantasy and horror genres.
Mórbido takes place in the city of Puebla, which is two hours away from Mexico City, and it has become one of the most important festivals of this genre in Latin America, due to its nature as a platform for launching and promoting Latin American movies.
The Festival’s programming is divided into: Thematic Section (depending on each year’s theme), Latin American Section, Global Section, New Directors Section, Brutal Midnight Section, Tribute Section, Future Releases Section and Children’s Section. In addition to the film selection, there are also fine arts exhibitions, theatre, thematic lectures, book presentations, concerts, and even a traditional Mexican wrestling match.
Throughout the years, Mórbido’s guest rooster had included amazing talent such as, Hideo Nakata, Takashi Murakami, Jaume Balagueró, Richard Stanley, Simon Boswell, Elijah Wood, Nacho Vigalondo, Richard Elfman, Michael Nyman, René Cardona III, Sergio Arau, Rigoberto Castañeda, Adan Jodorowsky, Bruce Spaulding Fuller, Travis Stevens, Adrián García Bogliano, Rodrigo Gudiño, Ricardo Islas, Carles Torrens, Fiona Dourif, Russell Cherrington, Rodrigo Aragão, Emilio Portes, Nicolás López, Jorge Michel Grau, Miguel Gomez.
